Long-distance running has never been my thing.

I can sprint towards a moving ball a few metres away like Steve McManaman in his heyday, but a run lasting any longer than 10 minutes usually has me with cheeks like two fire engines.

Despite this, about a month ago I signed up to run a whopping 13 miles on a cold morning in Wimbledon. The reason you may not have heard about it until now is because I wasn’t sure I would be able to fit in the training around a new job, and because of general laziness…
I ran 12 miles yesterday, however, and even started to enjoy it before my legs turned to jelly!

I would really like to use this as a reason to raise money for an amazing cause. You can find more info on it below:

Name? Larabanga Life Project
Where? Larabanga is a small town in Northern Ghana
What does it do? An orphanage, serving orphaned and homeless children in the communities surrounding Larabanga.
Why does it need help? The centre is run entirely by locals, and supported in part by donations from the community and from a few visiting tourists. The aim of the Life Project is to send as many of their orphans to school as possible, especially girls who historically would have been deprived of an education.

All money raised will be going directly to this project. Providing for the basic needs of the 50 or so children cared for by the project comes to around £200 per years. All children need to pay school fees if they want any sort of education, which the Project cannot afford at the moment.

It is an extremely exciting time for our friends at Larabanga this year as they have started construction work on a Centre for Learning, which they hope could house and educate the children who currently live across two large rooms where floor space is extremely limited.

You can find more information on the project at its website: www.laecf.com .

Me and the other volunteers in Takoradi found this orphanage by chance on our travels in Ghana, and could see the help it desperately needs. They have no outside Western influence other than us.
This is a huge chance to directly influence the lives of children who have little hope of a future without education.

Please consider donating to help them.

Thanks. Huw.
